This Privacy Policy explains how WebArchive Pilot handles information when you use the extension to save webpages as .webarchive files, reopen archived files in Chrome, and manage your downloaded archive library.

Overview

WebArchive Pilot does not sell personal information, does not run advertising trackers, and does not send your archived page content to a remote server for processing. The extension is designed to work locally in your browser and on your device.

WebArchive Pilot helps you save webpages as .webarchive files and reopen those files directly in Chrome. To do this, the extension uses certain Chrome extension permissions and stores limited local metadata needed to improve the archive viewing experience.

Information the Extension Processes

When you actively use WebArchive Pilot, the extension may process the following information locally:

• The URL and title of the webpage you choose to archive.
• The fully loaded page content captured by Chrome in order to create a .webarchive file.
• The page favicon URL, so saved archives can be easier to identify in the archive library.
• Downloaded archive file details such as filename, download ID, timestamp, and file existence status.
• Local extension UI preferences, such as viewer sidebar state.

The extension does not require you to create an account and does not collect payment details, messages, contacts, browsing history in bulk, or unrelated personal profile information.

How Information Is Used

• To capture the webpage you selected and convert it into a downloadable .webarchive file.
• To generate filenames and archive metadata that help you recognize saved files later.
• To display your downloaded archives in the built-in archive library.
• To reopen archived files directly in Chrome using the built-in viewer.
• To show progress, completion, and error messages for save operations.

Local Storage

WebArchive Pilot uses chrome.storage.local to store lightweight metadata for saved archives, including the original page URL, page title, favicon URL, saved timestamp, and some viewer interface preferences.

This data is stored locally in your browser profile to support archive management and quick reopening.

Downloaded Files

Archive files created by the extension are downloaded to your device through Chrome’s download system. Those files remain on your device until you remove them. If you uninstall the extension, previously downloaded archive files are not automatically deleted from your computer.

Data Sharing and Remote Services

WebArchive Pilot is designed to process archive creation and viewing locally. The extension does not provide a cloud account, remote sync service, or archive upload service.

WebArchive Pilot does not intentionally sell, rent, or share your personal information with data brokers or advertisers.

Archived page content is not transmitted to a dedicated WebArchive Pilot server for conversion or playback.

Third-Party Content

When you choose to archive a webpage, Chrome captures content from that page as it is loaded in your browser session. That content may include text, images, stylesheets, scripts, or other resources provided by third-party websites. WebArchive Pilot does not control the privacy practices of those websites.

Permission Explanations

• activeTab: used to archive the page you currently choose to save.
• downloads: used to save archive files, reveal saved files, list downloaded archives, and remove archives when you request deletion.
• pageCapture: used to capture the current webpage so it can be converted into a .webarchive file.
• tabs: used for multi-tab save actions, reading page title and URL for filenames, and reopening archive-related views.
• contextMenus: used to add right-click save actions.
• notifications: used to display progress and completion messages.
• storage: used to save local archive metadata and interface preferences.
• file:///*: used so the built-in viewer can reopen local archive files when you choose to view them in Chrome.

Retention and Deletion

Local metadata stored by the extension remains in your browser profile until it is deleted by the extension, removed by you through archive management actions, or cleared when the extension is removed.

If you use the extension’s delete feature for an archive, the extension may remove the related local file, erase the corresponding download history entry, and remove associated local metadata used by the archive library.

Children’s Privacy

WebArchive Pilot is a utility extension and is not directed to children. The extension does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect product changes, permission changes, or legal requirements. When this page is updated, the “Last updated” date above will also be revised.
